Now! Bracket Second Round: New Orleans Region

May 5, 2013

As you saw in the previous posts, I am doing a bracket with my friend over at The Jones Corner for the Now albums.  No need to drag out the explanation; here is the second round for the New Orleans region.

1 seed: Now Christmas vs. 8 seed: Now 15

Now Christmas

Starting Five

Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas-Frank Sinatra

Silent Night-Boyz II Men

Santa Claus Is Coming To Town-Bruce Springsteen

The Christmas Song-Nat King Cole

White Christmas-Bing Crosby

One and Dones

Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer-Elmo & Patsy

Holly Jolly Christmas-Burl Ives

Now 15

Starting Five

The First Cut Is the Deepest-Sheryl Crow

Toxic-Britney Spears

Stand Up-Ludacris feat. Shawnna

Feeling This-blink-182

100 Years-Five for Fighting

One and Dones

Gigolo-Nick Cannon feat. R. Kelly

Now 15 features some memorable songs with “100 Years” being the standout song while “Toxic” and “Feeling This” are fine if not spectacular representations of the various musicians. With all that said, It will not be the album that takes out Now Christmas, one of the the two “at-large” albums in the tournament. Now Christmas features some of the biggest musicians of all time and is the best selling Now album in the tournament.  For a full track listing, go here. You will see why it will advance.

Now 15: Cutting Deep

Now Christmas: Santa Claus is coming to the next round

2 seed: Now 38 vs. 7 seed: Now 27

Now 38

Starting Five

E.T.-Katy Perry feat. Kanye West

Born This Way-Lady Gaga

Grenade-Bruno Mars

Rolling in the Deep-Adele

One and Dones

Tonight Tonight-Hot Chelle Rae

Forget You-Cee Lo Green

Now 27

Starting Five

Apologize-Timbaland feat. OneRepublic

No One-Alicia Keys

Kiss Kiss-Chris Brown feat. T-Pain

Flashing Lights-Kanye West

Don’t Stop the Music-Rihanna

One and Dones

Into the Night-Santana feat. Chad Kroeger

Love Song-Sara Bareilles

Now 38 has some of the most memorable songs by some of the most popular women in music today, including Lady Gaga, Adele, Rihanna, and Katy Perry, in addition to having one of my absolute favorite songs of the past few years “Forget You” (well, I personally prefer the “uncensored” one, but I digress).  On the flip side, Now 27 has one of Kanye’s most memorable songs, plus solid outings from Alicia Keys, Rihanna, and Chris Brown.  As much as I like some of the Now 27 songs, it’s the end of the light for them.

Now 27: Stop the Music

Now 38: Rolling to the next round

3 seed: Now 31 vs. 6 seed: Now 26

Now 31

Starting Five

Dead and Gone-T.I. feat. Justin Timberlake

Boom Boom Pow-Black Eyed Peas

Right Round-Flo Rida

Poker Face-Lady Gaga

One and Dones

Blame It-Jamie Foxx feat. T-Pain

Don’t Trust Me-3OH!3

Now 26

Starting Five

Can’t Tell Me Nothing-Kanye West

Over You-Daughtry

LoveStoned-Justin Timberlake

Shut Up and Drive-Rihanna

Big Girls Don’t Cry-Fergie

One and Dones

Crank That (Soulja Boy)-Soulja Boy Tell ‘Em

Beautiful Girls-Sean Kingston

Hey There Delilah-Plain White T’s

Now 31 is just really strong. Beyonce, Lady Gaga, T.I., Justin Timberlake, Flo Rida, and Black Eyed Peas are  all very strong contenders. Of course, Now 26 is really strong as well. Timberlake again, along with Kanye, Rihanna, Fergie, Daughtry & Soulja Boy who is one of the premiere definitions of one and done.  While this is a tough matchup, I think I’m going to have to go with the upset and Now 26 will advance.

Now 31: Dead and Gone

Now 26: Crank That to the next round

4 seed: Now 29 vs. 12 seed: Now 45

Now 29

Starting Five

Got Money-Lil Wayne feat. T-Pain

So What-Pink

Whatever You Like-T.I.

Hot n Cold-Katy Perry

Forever-Chris Brown

One and Dones

Put On-Young Jeezy feat. Kanye West

Now 45

Starting Five

We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together-Taylor Swift

Live While We’re Young-One Direction

Don’t Stop the Party-Pitbull

Catch My Breath-Kelly Clarkson

One and Dones

The A Team-Ed Sheeran

Now 29 is more hip hop heavy than the typical Now album, but that provides some solid song choices. Now 45 is definitely pop heavy.  So, we have something of a stylistic clash.  That aside, Now 29 is just a much more overall solid album.  In one of the more lopsided outings in this round, Now 29 will advance.

Now 45: Not the A-Team

Now 29: Hot, not Cold

So, to recap, the advancing albums are these, and they will be in these matchups

1 seed: Now Christmas vs. 4 seed: Now 29

2 seed: Now 38 vs. 6 seed: Now 26
